About Island Queen

High-ceilinged gastropub with dark wood interior featuring etched glass, framed mirrors and plants.

In 2023 a 50th Anniversary Award was made to the pub as it had been serving cask ale and been an entry in CAMRA's first Good Beer Guide and is still selling cask today. The beer then was Charrington's IPA. So one beer then and two now - but in the interim the other 3 handpmups were often in use and hopefully sales will recover to allow another cask beer to appear.

With a Grade II listing and inclusion in CAMRA's London Regional Inventory of historic pub interiors, you won't be surprised by this pub's fine interior. Although it is clear some parts are missing, the central servery and much more has survived as another marvelous celebration of pub architecture, including some impressive etched and cut glass and the Lincrusta ceiling. Quiz night Thu, upstairs lounge bar with a pool table and an outside drinking area. Huge, clear glass windows lighten the place up but, sadly, are not the originals. Modern menu but by no means a gastro pub. On an October visit, the two guest beers were Elgood’s Black Dog and Windsor & Eton Knight of the Garter.

The Pub itself is lovely decorated. Although the saffron aioli has no saffron in it, the starters we had were good. Unfortunately I received the worst beer pour in my life. Only half of the 440ml can beer successfully made it into my glass. The waiter even had accidental eye contact with me while he poured the foam into the sink, but insisted the beer „was fine“.

Lovely pub, love the decor. A little out of the way, but worth it. Staff are very friendly, great service. Not overcrowded. I had the plant based burger served with fries. It was lovely. Average prices for the area. Cocktails are around £12. I would definitely go back.

Great place for a pint of anything. Great character place and super friendly. Just had a drink here.

Lovely pub, and great staff. The guy with dreads and glasses is so friendly and happy consistently every time, and remembers chats we had all forgotten each time we pop in for cheeky lunchtime work drinks. So we want to give him his props as nice to not to see a moody barman. Good team, good service!

Hidden gem and one of the nicest pubs in Islington. Located next to the canal in quiet neighbourhood! Excellent food and service
