Jackalope, London W1

About Jackalope

Traditional wood-panelled pub with modern design touches, a full bar & menu of spicy noodles.

Handily placed for your visit to your doctor in Harley Street or, perhaps more likely, the BBC Radio Theatre, this is one of Marylebone’s two remaining mews pubs, this one built in 1777 and grade II listed. The etched glass windows still with the Dover Castle name show the original layout and purpose of the two front bars before the removal of the partitioning. Note the mirrors underneath the dividing beam which allowed coachmen to observe when their passengers were ready to depart.

For many years a Sam Smith's outlet, this was taken over by Bloomsbury Leisure, the operators of the Euston Tap, and now has up to four cask ales plus around twelve keg beers. The dark-wood Sam Smith's interior has given way to a lighter feel, with two front-bar areas and two snugs in the rear, with some comfortable banquette seating but also some high counter-tables and bar stools for traditionalists. London's first Xiao Mian noodle kitchen opened downstairs, specialising in ramen dishes; if you do not want to sit at the few tables downstairs the staff will bring food up for you. The dishes here are very popular and the pub is often very busy of an evening.

A jackalope is a cross between a jackrabbit and an antelope, a mythical creature of North American folklore. Note the jackalope wallpaper and pub swingsign; but what the connection is with the upmarket Harley Street medical area, we do not know!

NB this venue is card-only, no cash.

Lively pub with good Asian fare - the noodles are quite yummy and the drinks are well portioned. You have to order from the bar / the counter for food and drink, which is a bit annoying (so the only table service is clearing glasses and plates). But the staff is friendly and it gets loud and vibey in good weather.

Amazing place located off the beaten track. Came for a quick drink, first visit. It has the feel of a proper old fashioned pub, beautifully done. Prices exceptionally reasonable and a good choice. Gregg was an absolute star behind the bar, friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. They also have a small restaurant downstairs but I didn't stay too try. I would highly recommend this place. Thanks for an enjoyable visit (and sorry again for knocking my drink over)

Great selection of beers, reasonably priced by London standards and poured to perfection. Ideal to wash down the amazing noodles from the Chinese restaurant in the basement - it's the perfect combo of pints and munchies. Expect the Jay Raynor review waxing lyrical soon!!!!

4.5 bright ones. The bar wasn't open in the pub upstairs, which we can only acknowledge as a shame. That being said, the pub is a little beauty and they appear to have a good range of beers with some good cask options. Food is sold downstairs and was delicious. Just what you'd hope for and it was great for my sniffles. I've wanted to come here for a while and the food held up. If the bar is open next time and the pub has good beer and chat flowing, I'll bump the review up to 5 stars.

Lovely hidden gem! The pub is everything you want from a local. Quick service, great selection of beers and some excellent bar snacks. Downstairs was serving up some killer noodles by LIU Xiaomain. We went for the beef and pork dumplings. Both excellent but could have had a bit more beef in the bowl. Only slight gripe. Go HOT when asked!
