About Jolly Butchers

Airy, traditional pub with arched windows, stripped floors and a variety of real ales and ciders.

With its prominent red painted exterior this is a one-room pub with large clear picture windows, and some half-moon upper windows retaining their coloured glass. An unusual mix of church pew seats with prayer book slots around large tables, an open kitchen and a bar featuring up to five cask beers and two ciders/perries at any time (either on handpump or in boxes from the fridge.

The range changes constantly. Nicely presented beer and cider menu with tasting notes. Catering is by Booma Kitchen – "The coming together of Delicious Indian Food and Great Beer" per their website. On Sundays traditional roasts and some Booma kitchen specialities.

Interesting range of bottled beers many imported together with some rarer tap beers from Brugse Zot, Meantime, de Koninck, Erdinger and Schlenkerla plus British craft kegs. From London, Jiddlers Tipple Another IPA in the permanent range.

Originally Jolly Butchers, then Father Teds, then Bar Stokies. Now back to its original name. The beers listed are an example of the type of LocAles that may be stocked.

Note - cash is no longer accepted, card payment only.

Favourite pub in Stoke Newington! Been here so many times and keep coming back. Always some new and interesting beers on tap, great selection of IPAs. Very nice staff, happy to recommend beers according to customer's preferences. Indian menu is a massive plus, their spicy dishes go very well with some beers. Excellent chicken wings and onion bhaji.👍

I've been here on a few occasions, both just for drinks and to eat as well. The tap selection they have is great, with some regulars and a few rotating ones. There's always something interesting to drink. The food is delicious. I'm surprised that more pubs aren't doing Indian food. I've had the duck kathi roll a couple of times, which is probably my favorite. We ordered the ribs last time, which were well seasoned and fall off the bone. Service is always very friendly, the prices reasonable, and just a nice and relaxed vibe. If I lived closer this would be my local.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted with such a lush smell - a smokey, seasoned tandoori/ BBQ type smell. It made us even more excited for our Sunday roast. I was torn between regular half chicken, the pork loin or the tandoori chicken roast. In the end, after a chat with our waiter, I went for the tandoori chicken roast. He said it was the most popular choice, also I thought I might as well - it’s not the usual thing to have with a Sunday roast, might as well make the most of it. I did not regret it. Everything was great. Very tasty. It arrived quickly. The portion size was generous…

"Posh", authentic Indian food at a reasonable price, wide range of beers on tap and a relaxed friendly atmosphere... what's not to love? Having lived in the area for a while now, we walked past The Jolly Butchers a few times and had entirely the wrong impression from the outside. Wish we'd discovered it sooner! Super casual spot with delicious Indian food. We ordered the butter chicken, some naan, rice and onion bhaji which was all excellent but the salmon was stand out! ... dog friendly too!

Top notch tandoori chicken roast lunch. Gravy incredible. Service just needs some focus and putting phones away.
