About Birdcage
25/01/22 - Closed for conversion to a Stonegate managed pub. 05/07/22 reopened - The web site promised three real ales - Doom Bar, Purity Mad Goose and Timothy Taylor Landlord. Only the last of these appears to be on the bar currently. Reverted to tenanted by the end of 2023.
Had reopened in May 2016 after 18 months closed ad eventually cask beer disappeared. Just up the road from Stoke Newington station, this is a large, imposing street corner pub built in robust pub style, with granite columns and bow windows. Largely modernised inside, with grey and bare brick decor, new bar counter, but retaining old window frames and internal columns with capitals.

Lovely pub, great service with a wide selection of drinks. Friendly personable staff (Helen from Sheffield) who get on well with all their customers. Definitely will be returning.

Birdcage is a really pleasant pub with wide selection of beer (around 20 taps, 2 beers from cask were available when I was there). Beer prices range from 4,5 to 7 GBP. The service is quick and nice, we did not have to wait at all, but it's worth noting that we were one of the few customers around noon on Easter Monday. The kitchen is serving a large variety of food: from fish and chips (a really honest amount, tasty, bit too fatty overall for my taste), burgers (all right), chicken wings (tasty, but could be a bit more moist) to pizza and subs that I haven't tried. Food prices seem…

Recommended by a friend, I’ve now been here several times since it’s been taken over and every single time the food has been lovely. The roast I had a couple of weeks ago was delicious. The bacon cheese burger and Mac & cheese was top notch today! Service is always very good, gorgeous pub, couldn’t fault anything.

Went to watch Arsenal vs Man U. Good pub for watching sports as there's loads of TV screens around. They seemed quite understaffed for a big game of a local club. Food was pretty good at standard prices for this day and age in London.
