About Clarence Tavern

Neighbourhood pub & restaurant with carefully selected seasonal food, beers & natural wines.

Popular corner house previously named after local author of Robinson Crusoe fame and built in the 1860s. In 2015 the lease was taken on by The Yummy Collection as a "tea-themed" pub, hence its then name change but it seemed a lot of people did not like that so it has, in Aug 2017, reverted to its original name. Pleasant walled garden. Grade II listed in 1975. Lease acquired by Natural Pubs in 2020.

My husband and I had our wedding lunch at the Clarence Tavern and everything was absolutely spot on. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional - Nicco and his team really made every effort to make this day extra special. There is also an impressive wine list that we look forward to discovering more of!

Super neighbourhood gastro pub with a great selection of wines , including some on tap. Relaxed but attentive service from friendly staff. At first we just came for a drink but they were more than accommodating when we also decided to eat. We had a selection of plates to share between 2 of us and everything was so fresh and delicious. Hats off to the team, keep up the great work

Had a great time at the Clarence Tavern. Food was superb, highlights were the buttered scallop, onglet, roast chicken and gratin dauphinois! Be sure to check out their Specials board before ordering!

The Clarence is one of those special places that you have to pinch yourself that it’s real and then proceed to rave about it to all your friends and bring them in. The vibe is a casual pub/shop for wine and takeaway sandwiches. But the food and the service make you feel like you’re at a whole other level. The staff is excellent and knowledgeable about the menu and are always incredibly welcoming. During the pandemic they expanded the patio area, which makes it even better in the summer and spring. The wine list is next level (inquire about the cellar list if you want some expertise from…

Attended yesterday for a birthday dinner. Quite busy and loud couldn’t really hear anyone which was a shame. It was also very warm inside so I would recommend dressing light. The server did her best but appeared quite busy. She was very pleasant but could have done with some help. Drinks took about 20 minutes to arrive and some drinks were missing. The food was decent, I ordered pumpkin Cavatelli. The flavours were really nice. However for £18 I was expecting a little more than a handful of pasta. Overall it was alright. Most people enjoyed their meals so I might return and give another…
