About Kings Head

Compact and unpretentious pub serving real ales and traditional pub food, with some street tables.

First licensed in 1822 and rebuilt in 1926. Traditional community pub, hosting regular theme nights and charity events. Wooden beams and panelling create a comfortable and spacious feel. This is somewhere to wind down after shopping in busy, cosmopolitan Queensway. There is a good range of foreign beers on offer and branded glasses are used whenever possible. Three ales are usually on, and another handpump may be used for cider. Meals are served throughout the day.

Avoid. At least, the fish and chips. Not sure what the other reviewer who sang it's praises was served... Overpriced, poor quality and not as advertised. (1) See the pic of the menu description. Note the description for the peas and the chips. You can see that the (miserly portion of) peas was not "crushed" in any way! And the chips hadn't been adequately cooked once, let alone multiple times aka "triple-cooked"(2) What's up with the portion sizes? Are frozen peas expensive? And potatoes? At least there was no service charge on top of that £17 bill. I ate the whole meal, but I didn't love…

An amazing place with great, hardworking staff. I asked to watch a football game, and they didn’t hesitate to switch the TV on. It’s such a pleasure to be here; I’d definitely come back. Thanks a lot!

We are travelling here from Melbourne aus and stopped here for a drink and a bite to eat. Absolutely incredible food. We both finished our whole plate and drinks were so refreshing!

Enjoyed a pint of cindar with friends and wife. Not too noisy and nice atmosphere. Rebuilt in 1926
