About Old Pack Horse

Traditional pub in a statuesque old building with chandeliers, Thai decor and rustic tables.

There has been a pub on this site for a long time, and "Ye Pack Hors in Turnam Greene" was mentioned on a trader's token of 1669 used in lieu of money. It was called the Lower Packhorse until 1812 (cf. Packhorse & Talbot a few hundred yards east). This is now a Grade II-listed corner pub last rebuilt around 1910 by the great pub architect Nowell Parr. Refurbished recently, it has a beautiful frontage often featured in local photographs, and a view across Turnham Green. With ornate woodwork and glasswork including some stained glass panels, it is one of London’s Real Heritage Pubs. Five drinking areas include a snug, and a Thai restaurant towards the back which can also provide takeaway. Note the tiny inglenook snug bar with its leather banquettes. An illuminated bar sign refers to the long-gone Chiswick Empire, and walls display theatre memorabilia and Victorian bottles. The current manager hopes to expand to a fifth ale pump, and as well as the draught beers there is an increasingly adventurous range of keg beers. Bottled beers go up to a Belgian Chimay at 9% ABV! On Friday nights (late opening) there is a DJ from 9pm.

Came in for a pub lunch and was delighted to find a Thai menu on offer. The pub area was very quiet while the eating area was at the back. Pity the waiter and service were so disengaged, but the food was excellent. A hidden treat on the High Road!

This is nice local pub serving thai food. I am a fan of green thai curry so I ordered it for lunch today. The curry is good size served with nice portions of rice. Curry itself was spicy (which I like) but a bit too salty ( I try not to eat too much salt). I chose vegetarian option which had good size of veggies in the bowl. Overall tasty food and quick service. Great local place for lunch.

Tried the Thai restaurant a couple times. Have to say it's pretty good, feels rather authentic. I'd probably use some more heat on the dishes, gonna ask next time. Recommended.

Lovely, friendly atmosphere. Fast service. Great selection of beer and other drinks. But the food was the highlight for me. I was surprised by how quickly my food arrived. I had forgotten to order rice, and the chef pointed this out to the waitress immediately. The food was by far the best Thai food I have had in London. A perfect balance of spicy hotness and delicious flavour. I took my time eating to prolong the pleasure! I can't recommend it strongly enough. This pub is far from my home, but I will definitely be coming back.

Having Thai food (only) served in a British pub is a rather adventurous idea It would be a rightfully exhilarating experience if only the food quality is better The pork curry lacked depth in flavour and the pork slices probably stayed a bit too long in the freezer
