About Duke of Sussex

Grand, Victorian pub with chandeliers, central skylight and garden.

The Duke of Sussex is named after one of Queen Victoria's uncles rather than Meghan's husband. It dates from the 1840s and was originally owned by a Suffolk Brewer. By the 1890s it was owned by the Cannon Brewery of Clerkenwell and later by the Lion Brewery, For much of the 20th century it was a Taylor Walker house.

Rebuilt in 1898 with a mock Tudor frontage, it has a central island counter with exposed floorboards, alcove seating and etched glass screens. Up to five (but usually three) rotating guest ales are available. mostly from London and the Home Counties. The rear room, the decorative ceiling of which is listed, is dedicated to diners and leads through to a large and welcoming garden with hidden corners. It is both a local and a gastro-pub. There is generally a pub quiz here on Sunday evenings. Next to the terminus of the 94 bus.

The Duke of Sussex opposite Acton Green serves a fine pint of beer. Plenty of room, high ceilings and a pleasant environment. Good service from the staff. A fair selection of beers to choose from, both keg and cask. There is an expansive patio garden to the rear with plenty of seating for all. Good place for a beer, also solids (not tried), including Sunday Lunches.

Restaurant: The Duke of Sussex Rating : ★★★★★. 🤩🤩 It was a wonderful dining experience with a warm welcome and a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant offers a creative menu with fresh ingredients. I had the beef filet with truffle mashed potatoes, which was delicious, along with the grilled fish dish that was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The meal ended with a divine molten chocolate cake. There was also a wide selection of beverages, including beer, fresh fruit juices, alcoholic drinks, and coffee. The service was quick and efficient, making the experience even more enjoyable…

Definitely a 5 stars pub. Big and airy with plenty of space in the drinking area. A fine function room and a comfortable garden. The food experience was great. Out of the usual pub grabs. Some of the dishes were absolutely stunning. Perfect for a date dinner, an afternoon drink or a Sunday lunch. Sport in screen if you really can’t do without but no annoying at all.

Great food, welcoming staff and comfortable environment! First time visit. I took the family for Mother’s Day meal. We had the chicken pie, the Lamb, roast chicken and fish. All dishes were great. Very tasty! This was followed by desserts. Choc hazelnut tart, Spanish cheesecake and churros! Also very yummy compliments to the chefs! Staff were great! Definitely a place to revisit.
