Swan, Acton Green

About Swan

Art deco pub with green tiling, wood-panelling and lived-in sofas plus a heated beer garden.

Street corner pub dating from 1871, which retains a local drinking character despite the addition of a well-regarded gastropub area into part of the original garden – still one of the best pub gardens in West London. The ever-present Timothy Taylors Landlord is joined by St Austell Tribute. The pub exterior regularly appeared in a 1980s sitcom, and familiar faces from current TV can often now be seen.

From 'Acton's Pubs and Inns (1989) :

"At the Acton Green end of Acton Lane, the lane takes a sharp right turn and then a left turn round an old field boundary. On the corner of this last turn stands the Swan. Acton Lane is an ancient way and there was a cluster of cottages here in early days. The pub is however first recorded in 1871 when the publican was James Brown who owned the house when it passed to the Phoenix Brewery, Latimer Road. The area around that part of Acton Lane was built up rapidly during that period. The pub passed to the Law Guarantee Trust and in 1909 to Charringtons.

It survived the rebuilding in the area, was renovated and added to ; although the original house can still be seen. It still retains its original garden and some of the trees."

It is rumoured that the pub survived demolition in the 1970s as part of the building of the Beaconsfield Road Council Estate next door because the then Leader of the Council was a regular there.

Five of us ate here recently on a Bank Holiday Monday we had booked early, on arrival the pub was pretty quiet but soon got busy with diners. Food was good, but they forgot one of the starters. We had ordered two the same, but they looked different when the second forgotten plate arrived. Food was well cooked and had good flavours, nice wine list. Staff were pleasant and it was a lovely way to spend time with friends. Recommend booking to guarantee a table.

One of my favourite local pubs in West London! The service here is amazing and the food is fantastic 😍! Love the swan burger and I recommend coming here for their Sunday lunch too!

Lovely pub, with a gorgeous garden. Food was very nice, although I'd expect more veggies with the roast dinner and the side salad on the burger was pathetic. However, the burger itself was delicious and the meat on the roasts was cooked to perfection. Potatoes and chips were cooked well too. Good variety of drinks and cocktails were well made. It has a lovely atmosphere.

A great pub just between Chiswick and south Acton. Great Sunday roast options. Chicken was the highlight, full of flavour and herbs. The beef and pork was also pretty good. The pasta was tasty and delicious and desserts were a great way to finish the meal. Only downside was the Yorkshire pudding, which just wasn’t quite right. But still top scores for a great Sunday roast with friendly staff.

First time to try lunch at The Swan. We decided on the daily roast lamb and beef. We were pleasantly surprised on how delicious the roasts were. First we shared the garlic chilli prawns. Very tasty, not too spicy and the sauce we soaked up the delicious sauce with the bread provided. I had the beef, tender, juicy along side the carrots, cabbage and the carrots out of this world. My wife has the lamb, and she was very pleased with the roast lamp. The lamb was tender and all the sides were great. The roast potatoes were cooked to perfection. I would recommend and we will definitely go back.
