About Spaniards Inn

Wood-panelled pub with homely fireplace and large garden for outdoor pints and comfort food.

The building dates back to about 1585, though possibly not originally a pub, it is soaked in history, housed in a charming grade II listed, white weatherboard clad exterior. The pub's interior is divided into separate rooms with areas featuring wooden beams and low ceilings, lending the place a cosy atmosphere. There is a large garden out back alongside the car park. The inn is mentioned in Dickens' 'Pickwick Papers' and Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', Keats is said to have written 'Ode to a Nightingale' in the garden. But references to the highwayman Dick Turpin being born here are false since he was born in Essex. Good selection of imported beers and close to the Heath and Kenwood House. It can get very busy at the weekends so don't be surprised with a long queue just to get a drink on a busy, sunny, Sunday afternoon. Drinkers may be relegated to the heated garden if tables inside are booked for food.

Alcohol is served from 10am.

Bus: 210 plus the rare/elusive 603 (only 4 times a day Mon - Fri).

The food and wine were excellent. We had the wild boar bangers and mash, duck salad and a really lovely Fleurie. Our server was also lovely- he was very kind and personable and made good suggestions. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Such a charming, historic building. This was our second visit. Our first we could not get a booking inside but were able to sit outside— which is also nice— lots of space and heaters for when it’s chilly.

Amy is a brilliant host who is so attentive and ensured we were looked after and were given our chips asap while there was wait for the food to be served during busy times. Food was great a little on the colder side but tasted well and our table set up and service was best in the house. Definately worth visiting and lucky if Amy is your host!

Lovely Sunday roast, the meat was exceptionally well cooked and the desserts were delicious. Roast potatoes a little underwhelming would be my only complaint but overall really enjoyable. Massive thanks to Eric who served us and was really attentive when it came to food allergies and thoroughly checking everything with us and the kitchen.

Always excellent food here and worth visiting. Cozy, historic pub oozing character in the heath. Inside dining room can be a bit warm on Summer days! Both otherwise, everything was great.

Great pub, good food, friendly staff and very nice terrace and atmosphere! It was my first time in Hamsptead Heath and I brought my friends there to eat sunday roast as recommended by one colleague at work and it was such a success! All my mates loved it. We did not have booking but we were so lucky tu grab the last table available so please make sure you book to avoid disappointment as it gets very busy! Many thanks to Mark for that 🙏 We were served by Amy who was brilliant! So attentive and sweet, thanks Amy for looking after us 😊 The food takes long to be served, around 30/40 minutes…
