About Speaker
A cozy, light wood decor local with cask ales and global beer selection, serving home-cooked food.
Following a much-needed refurb in 2018, which thankfully both preserved the character and enhanced the decor, this pub reopened under Bermondsey Pub Co (now Stonegate) management. Note the charming explanatory wall plaques on the outside of the pub.
This is the original "wet-led pub" as there is no kitchen and no food is served (check with the staff regarding BYO). Normally five ales are available and often including some unusual ones.
Now open at the weekend, it is popular with locals, civil servants and those tourists who stumble across it; and it may become crowded at peak times. Don't trip over the pub dog, at date of this entry a dachshund going by the name of Dr Frankenfürter whose basket is at the foot of the stairs. His birthday party for his doggy friends is celebrated by the pub on or around 30 September each year.

After a long travel day we stumbled into The Speaker to get a nice proper pint 🍺 and figure out the rest of our London plans. This place was perfect! Cozy, comfortable and great service. Enjoyed our pint next to a little hound puppy who obviously manages the place! Guinness was fresh and hot the spot.

A cozy and traditional pub in the heart of Westminster! Lively and buzzing with people during peak hours. It is a very small pub but they have some sitting upstairs too.

Best original Pub in London! With a welcoming atmosphere, we had such a great time drinking beer and getting to know the locals. Everyone is so friendly and had a chance to meet the owner, Tom who is so down to earth. The bartenders Max and Anya are amazing and gave us the history about real ale. ***Americans ain’t got anything on beer until you come here! Frank the dog left a place in our hearts! Such a wonderful pub to visit!***

Visited during a quiet lunchtime. Excellent cask ales. Well served. Decent pub. It used to be the Elephant & Castle and this newer iteration is much tidier. Beware though, the toilets are upstairs. And the stairs were built in Victorian times so they are quite steep.
