About Warrington Hotel

Refined 19th-century lodging with an art nouveau vibe, plus a cosy pub, a restaurant & a patio.

Flanked by K2 red telephone kiosks also listed Grade II, this is one of the most opulent of London pubs. This spacious, stucco-fronted hotel was put up in the middle of the 19th century. It was given a major update later in the century, probably in the 1890s, and the glorious tiled columns to the entrance porch and a huge mosaic floor bearing the name of the pub give some idea of the richness that lies on the other side of the doors. It is also beautifully carpeted throughout.

The main room is on the right and has a grey marble-topped counter with unusual, bulgy pilasters and lozenge decoration. Grey marble also appears in the columns of a three-bay arcade which marches across the right-hand side of the room, embracing the generously scaled staircase to what is now the upstairs restaurant. Some of the windows have lively stained glass, while over the servery is a semi-circular canopy, decorated with Art Nouveau-style paintings of naked ladies. More such paintings, with the signature Colin Beswick 1965, appear on the back wall and are meant to evoke the unlikely story that has grown up that this was once a brothel.

The left-hand room was once clearly divided into three as the patterning in the ceiling shows. The lowest status part has matchboard wall panelling and an ornate, much decayed mirror advertising Bass pale ale. Other things to note are the attractive and unusual high-level chequerwork glazed screens, the skylight over the first-floor landing and the deep, decorative cornices on the first floor.

Artist and illustrator Edward Ardizzone drew "The Lounge at the Warrington" and his illustration is in Maurice Gorham's famous book "Back to the Local". There are suggestions in his drawing of illicit assignations upstairs!

The extensive food menu includes Sunday roasts, kid-size portions, and veggie and vegan dishes.

Didn’t stay here but visited the pub. Great pub, very cozy and grand however staff weren’t very freindly or welcoming (except for the American bartender she was nice). It was almost like they didn’t want to be there and gave off a blunt and judgmental vibe. Don’t think they are used to seeing unfamiliar people. Defiantly the least hospitable establishment and wasn’t very nice being here. Brace your self they didn’t have any prices advertised nor a drinks menu, I paid £6.70 for a pint of Guinness which wasn’t bad but these prices may change depending on how they feel? Also the toilets were…

Charging twice and refusing to refund We’ve enjoyed visiting this pub on and off over the past three years, but a recent experience has left us feeling very disappointed. A couple of weeks ago, we stopped in for a cup of mulled wine. After making the payment, the bartender approached us while we were drinking to say the payment hadn’t gone through. We showed her proof on our banking app that the transaction was successful, but she insisted it hadn’t and claimed the charge would be refunded to us later, demanding we pay again. The money never came back, however we were charged twice. Today…

Fantastic decor! Friendly and efficient staff. Great choice of ales: Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Old Speckled Hen. I wasn't staying at the hotel nor did I eat there. Toilets are downstairs. Definitely coming back!

A beautiful Grade II listed building a short walk from Warwick Avenue tube station. A reasonable beer garden out the front and what feels like sheer luxury inside. Beautiful fittings throughout. Problems affecting the kitchen stopped me eating but I would be happy to go back. The staff were really friendly and i had a good long chat about the building with far too much to include here. The Guinness was awesome.

Visited on 2nd Nov 2024 for a drink and was impressed by the beautiful interiors and the festive setup for Day of the Dead. I’d love to come back again! One small note for the management: We were there around 3 PM on a Saturday, and while the place was quite empty, the service could have been better. The female bartender who served us seemed a bit indifferent when I ordered a drink. She did make the cocktail, but there was no smile or welcoming customer service. Initially, I thought it was just me, but on the way back, I mentioned it to my partner, and she pointed out the same thing. While…
