About White Lion
A familiar British menu and real ales, served in an airy contemporary pub with big windows.
There are two handpumps which greet you on entering but in Feb 2023 only the one in use and when that beer ran out it did not look as if it would be changed immediately that evening. A large and impressive pub with a semi-circular bar and piano and a separate area to the rear which hosts the pub quiz evenings. Also lots of outside seating on the front patio.
Sold by Wetherspoon to Urban Pubs and Bars and re-opened after a refurbishment. Previously one of the oldest Wetherspoon's pubs, established in 1986, converted from a car showroom. The White Lion originally featured in the coat of arms of the Mortimer family, and was later incorporated into the coat of arms of King Edward VI.

First time here and wasn't disappointed. It was busy but we got served at the bar quickly and really helpful when wanting to change the sauce on my burger. The size of the fish was fantastic, and you can also see how much chicken there was in the chicken burger. Would highly recommend.

This spot is a true haven for both dog and baby lovers. The atmosphere is welcoming, making it a perfect place for a family outing. The staff is always friendly, though service can be a bit slow during peak times – a minor drawback that's easy to overlook given their warm hospitality. The White Lion is a great neighbourhood pub with chill family vibes, lots of beer on tab, and great food. I just tried their Sunday roast as well and particularly liked the vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. They usually have live music on Saturdays nights too, which is nice.
