About Candlemaker

Comfortable little pub with rustic wood tables, colourful art and a garden, serving eclectic food.

After eight months' closure, this pub was reopened on 1 November 2012 by new owners InnBrighton, now the Laine Pub Company. A complete internal makeover incorporates the old kitchen as trade space and a lot of work has gone into the garden, with smoking shelters back and front. The new upstairs kitchen was once a meeting/function room and the top floor is the manager’s domestic accommodation.

Cask beer was discontinued in 2021 owing to lack of demand but returned in March 2023.

The pub was suddenly taken over in September from Laine's by Smok'd, who run the Britannia, SE1 and the Greyhound in Kingston. Like them, a 'modern British barbecue restaurant' it was initially described to a CAMRA visitor as free of tie, with a commitment to cask beer and the promise of local favourites, but now finds its ambitions frustrated by contractual supply restrictions severely limiting its choice of cask ales.

I recently visited The Candlemakers on Battersea High Street and was pleasantly surprised. The food menu is simple, but what they do, they do exceptionally well. I had the hamburger, and it was amazing – tasty, with quality meat. Their selection of beers and whiskies is incredible, featuring options from all over the world. Plus, it's really good value for money. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. Another bonus is that the pub is dog-friendly, making it a great spot for pet owners. I'll definitely be returning!

A truly wonderful "start" to the day with a beautifully cooked, presented, and tasted Sunday roast beef rib dinner !!!! From start to finish, impeccable, warm, friendly, welcoming, fun, service - first time in a while I haven't had to ask for water. Lots of choice for seating, indoors, 2 x outdoors - front and rear. Extremely clean, with very nice decor. Tips: Free parking evenings after 7pm and weekends nearby in Patience Road and surrounding area. Comedian performances here sell out fast, and Havana cigars are available. Plenty of deals available during lunch and weekdays too. Looking…

Really good food, reasonable prices, and good variety. Server was really attentive, friendly and great. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night so atmosphere marked down. Venue is clean, and cool looking although slightly off the beaten track. Highly recommend the ribs and sweet potato

Came in on a Saturday afternoon, we had the beef and pork ribs which were both basted and cooked very well. The beans loaded fries were great too. The service was also very friendly

Came here after refurbishment. Ambience was absolutely brilliant! In terms of service, I didn’t get my drink initially and had to ask one more time to get the waiter send over. Food - chicken wings were dry, burger order was wrong and had to get the correct one made. Very over cooked beef and dry. The ribs was alright tender but not sure if it was the Smokey taste as it was quite salty to my liking. Overall still giving a 4 star with the atmosphere and the comfort ness of the restaurant. Food needs improving.
