About Rose & Crown

Large pub with a multitude of small window panes inside and out and a popular, decked roof terrace.

Close to historic Clissold House and park, this is the "gateway" to central Stoke Newington night-life. This inter-war former Truman's house retains many period features, including distinctive wood panelling which has led to its listing on CAMRA's Regional inventory of pub interiors.

En suite accommodation available. Popular and busy pub quiz on Tuesday nights - can be difficult to get a table if you are not playing. Has been known as such since 1612 but the original inns were on the east junction of Albion Rd and it moved to its present position in 1930 which probably goes a long way to explain the inter-war fabric.

Note - payment by card only, no cash.

Parents had a wonderful stay at the Rose & Crown. Beautiful newly renovated rooms with plenty of space right above the pub. Great when you come back after a day full of London sightseeing and can just relax and unwind over a pint before going to bed. Really feels like a second home thanks to lovely Kate and her team. Location is fantastic too with several buses going straight into town - or just spend your day exploring N16 and stay in the park or hang out in Church Street or walk up to the water reservoirs. We'll definitely come back!

People serving are really nice and the beer choice is good and varied but the variability in the food quality lets it down. Whitebait was too big - not portion but the individual fish size so it absorbed too much oil and was unpleasant to eat, chargrilled chicken with sauce was also surprisingly very oily, all the chips were overcooked. Burgers and steaks were appreciated by my boys - but they would say that wouldn't they? I'll come back to see if I just visited on an off day. 🤞

I got a Sunday Roast here this evening and there were sharp bits of plastic in the Yorkshire Pudding. I think it was parts of a plastic lid which had been mixed up in the batter. The manager was nice about it and gave me a refund and also replaced the meal, however it's pretty worrying for a pub to be serving food with plastic in it.

It truly was the highlight of our adventure to London. We chose not to stay in the popular tourist areas. We were welcomed warmly by all of the staff who treated us like family. We arrived way early and since our rooms were ready they let us check in. Rooms are so comfortable and even fresh flowers on the table. Breakfast is served daily with a beautiful presentation. Note only to guests at the Inn. Kate is an excellent manager with a superb staff. Do not hesitate to book here. We enjoyed staying at this charming Inn with so much history and personality. The town is so easily walkable with…

Beautiful pub, sticks to its architectural roots from the 30s. Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. There is a large selection of drinks to choose from. The only thing missing is the real people, you know the ones, those that work hard and have integrity, not the ones who worry what organic food their dog can eat, as well as being upset that whole foods ran out of harissa. Don’t let that put you off, this pub is worth a visit.
