About Cock & Woolpack

Cosy, low-lit pub serving Shepherd Neame ales and speciality micro-brews, plus typical pub food.

Behind the Royal Exchange in one of the City’s many age-old small alleyways, between Cornhill and Threadneedle Street, this inn was originally built in 1803 but now dates from the late-19th century and was once owned by Bass, owned by Shepherd Neame since 2002. There is one small long narrow bar on the ground floor, now entirely wood-panelled and sparkling with many mirrors. The toilets are downstairs. At lunchtime and early evening it can be filled to overflowing with local workers. It was just the Woolpack, and has used the current name since at least 1971.

Great Pub, good selection of Drinks, Service is really fast and friendly. It is a popular Pub but isn't too busy, which is great 😎 I didn't try the food, but the Guinness is great 🙂 Well worth a visit 👍

The staff are friendly and welcoming and it has a good selection of beers, wines and spirits. Not many places to sit in the pub. Seems to be for people to stand and have a drink rather than sit and relax

  • 5 out of 5David Leekon Google, April 2024

This pub has the best atmosphere I've ever experienced! Always welcoming and fun, and have to shoot out Sophie and Becca who are so bubbly and make everyone laugh!!

  • 3 out of 5David Simkinson Google, July 2020

Fairly small pub on a relatively quiet road, so attracts outdoor drinkers. Bigger than it looks once inside - wood panelling and many mirrors help the illusion. Shepherd’s Neame and guest beers, plus traditional pub grub. Staff are friendly and efficient. As others have said, it’s looking a little ‘tired’ currently so probably warrants 3.5 stars - so my rating is a little on the downside.
