About Cocoanut
Classic British pub with dishes from around Thailand plus real ales, global wines and more.
Originally the Joiners Arms but renamed in the 1850s after the local cocoa fibre industry along the banks of the nearby Hogsmill River. Once a student hangout, the pub reopened in 2009 and is now frequented by locals of all ages and backgrounds. Thai food is a speciality (no food Sunday). There is still a university connection with paintings by art students exhibited on the walls. The decor is dark pub traditional with wood panelled walls, leaded-light windows, and two connected bars in a U shape around the central serving area; the left hand bar is set up in traditional style with tables and chairs and mainly used for dining, but the righthand one has leather sofas for lounging. Behind the pub there is a pleasant garden.

Edit: Hope the reviewers can see from the owners reply how bitter she is. Not sure why you assume the issue is with staffs personalities as I’ve clearly written it is with the service provided by them. Added a photo of the dip to show how tiny the quantity is for the chicken satay. The greedy lady just wants your money even if it’s £1 at a time. Also Wagamama at least knows how to serve their customers so yes it’s a great suggestion. Horrible service by the staff taking orders and they don’t even give enough dip with the starters for you to end up paying extra. The spice levels in the menu…

We visited evening dinner time, was not many people. But looks busy with take away. Staff are friendly and nice. Restaurant was clean :) Food was great 😊 delicious only thing was waiting for bit long time. May be they cook fresh and busy with take away. But we really enjoyed food and time here !! We will visit again. And you must try aubergine :) sweet and soy bean sauces great combination!!

Have been there a few times, the food always lifts the spirits up, authentic & delicious!! Went again on Wednesday with a group of friends to celebrate our friend getting married, we sat outside, the waiter was lovely, he came to check on us & take our orders, helped take pictures of us too! We shared a mix platter of starters, a main each and a bottle of bubbly. We then felt a little chilly outside after the starters and decided to move into the main building, the waiter was very accommodating and we carried on having a lovely evening out. Thank you Cocoanut, we will definitely return!

Great dog friendly pub serving authentic Thai food. Prices are fairly reasonable for the area. Great service, will be back.

Amazing service and even better food. The owner and staff are so accommodating. Such a lovely pub, one of Kingston’s hidden gems! I would recommend the Pad Thai!
