About Dickens Tavern

Casual pub with Charles Dickens–themed decor offering typical fare, plus TV screens & a pool table.

A deceptively large and deep pub with three distinct areas but not, as it once claimed, the longest pub in London. Although part of the same premises as an hotel, dating from 1861, it is separately run and has no commercial connection. There are six cask ale handpumps in front part of the pub and more plus kegs at the back. A renovation at the end of 2017 led to a more Dickens-themed interior.

Place was ok I went with my sister and she ordered the chicken katsu burger and I ordered the fish and chips. Service didn’t take long and the food was good. The fish is massive with the fish and chips - very filling. However, I paid £1.75 extra for the curry sauce and when the food came out the curry sauce was less then half the pot full - literally a tablespoon of sauce that had probably been heated in the microwave for god knows how long. I mean it was BOILING and I ended up burning my tongue - you wouldn’t expect a sauce to be scorching hot. I spoke to one of the guys on the team if they…

Huge pub, with quite a few “day drinkers”. Wanted a something to eat so gave this place a go. Confused because place next door has exact same menu, but when I used the toilet it was clear why, the businesses are physically connected. Mens toilet was not working when I visited so everyone had to use the women. Service was okay, polite and friendly. Food was terrible. Overcooked sausages. Burnt sweet potatoes. Microwaved mash potato. Overcooked peas (probably microwaved). Dry chips. Dry scampi. Only tasty thing was the pie. Place is to be avoided

For the times we have been here on our stay, the pub was super friendly and inviting. Ana and her staff made us feel super welcomed and appreciated. The food was absolutely spot on for what we wanted, and we left here super satisfied. The service was reflective of a genuine pub experience. We will back here 100%. Signing off from the land down-under. P.S. the pulled mushroom chilli was a highlight!
