About Sawyers Arms

Typical pub over 2 floors with a familiar menu and fresh-feeling decor with a light colour scheme.

Comfortable, wood-panelled, split-level bar with some secluded drinking areas and an upstairs restaurant, which has its own bar and can be hired. Caters largely for the tourist trade. Originally built as a fishmonger’s shop in 1854. Licensed in 1858 and called the Western Counties Hotel until 1983. Merged with next door building in 1971.

A couple of the handpumps may be used for Lilleys cider during the Summer Months.

Ate here our first day in London working of the jet lag. Hake with white beans was fantastic. Pan seared and moist. I would order again Traditional fish and chips - hot and large portion. My friend was quite pleased. Service - very nice folks. Anytime I'm in a city location with many travelers I lower my expectations but the staff were professional and nice. Atmosphere - we ate upstairs where is is quieter.

Enjoyed our visit. Service was great (very busy when we went but they found us a table, available to take orders despite how busy they were, food arrived quickly). They are happy to serve kids but there is no specific children’s menu. Food was very good. We had the roast beef, chicken pie special, beef and ale pie and the burger, all recommended. Dessert menu is limited but worthwhile. Sticky toffee pudding was nice enough (needed a bit more sauce, a little bland without it), and the (salted?) caramel chocolate tart was the winner of the night. Would absolutely go back again

We stopped in for lunch today at Sawyers Arms and had a great time! They have a breakfast menu until 12 but we went straight for lunch, with a delicious steak and ale pie with chips, fish and chips, and a mac and cheese. All delicious! The mac and cheese is heavy on the cheese, which is great for some! Loved the beef drippings gravy that came with my pie. And the beer was great too. Bathroom stalls are really small and are hard to navigate, and there wasn't any upstairs seating but we managed to snag a couple of cozy armchairs to dine in! A great experience.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat before going to the theatre. Ordered salt and pepper squid, which was larger than expected but had little to no salt or pepper, but there were condiments on the table so that was an easy fix. Ordered 2 toasties, as my plate was placed on the table I could see something crawling in the "side salad" spoke to a member of staff who took my plate -he did apologise- for all of about 30 seconds and then brought it back to the table minus the creature. This was not sufficient time to have taken it back to the kitchen and a member of the bar staff had removed the…
