About George

Spacious Edwardian hostelry offering real ales, budget meal deals and a family area.

** This pub will close on Sunday October 13th**

Large 2 floored Victorian pub that became a Wetherspoon free house in April 92 dropping the 'Hotel' from its name. The pub has two bars but upstairs there is no real ale. Twelve hand pumps downstairs dispense the regular Wetherspoon’s ales and eight guests, which sell quickly at the weekends. Food is served until 11pm and there are three beer festivals during the year. Photographs of famous Georges adorn the upper walls with a dragon above the bar and a dragon chair reflecting the pubs original name, the George & Dragon. There is a smoking area and car park at the rear of the pub.

Cavernous Spoons in a nice old building, sadly soon to close I hear. Decent choice of ales, but not all on great form. Full of old people pushing peas around the plate. Meh!

Always a good breakfast 😋 cheap and cheerful. The George has that pub atmosphere. People drinking at 11am and a alcohol stench when entering the building! But food is OK and cheap =)

Pleasant atmosphere friendly community environment…. I’ve been asked if I was part of the tennis club and Wanstead youth group, today I’m very popular. Only having a pint today as eaten before coming out. An interesting pup on two levels with typical Wetherspoon local historical facts on offer. Spoons #67

I visited the pub last night and wanted to share my experience. While I appreciate the efforts of the manager, who went out of their way to rectify the situation, the attitude of one of the barmen towards us was appalling. Upon receiving our drinks, ordered through the app, the bartender slammed them onto our table without acknowledging us, and proceeded to storm off. Despite our polite thank-you, his demeanour remained indifferent. The same demeanour persisted when we ordered dessert, with added hostility in his glare. I reported this to another barman, who was very friendly, and he…

A friend of mine took us to this gorgeous pub. Loved the atmosphere of the non-tourists local pub in the suburb of London and mixed with locals.
