Lively, family-oriented joint offering standard pub fare, plus veggie options, in a comfy setting.
As the name suggests the Fox under the Hill is situated at the foot of Shooters Hill, on the London side, opposite Hornfair Park and the Charlton Lido. It was part of the Hungry Horse chain until re-opened in late August 2024 after a conversion to a more traditional pub but still with a heavy emphasis on food provision. It has a large interior divided into different areas with an extensive pub food menu. Real ale is sold through 4 handpumps. There is a car park to the side plus ample parking nearby for those taking the family for lunch. The walls are adorned with pictures and stories of local famous residents such as Boy George and Manfred Mann. Closed in July 2024, expected to re-open as a Greene King pub in late August 2024 and duly did.

Amazing spacious local pub suitable for all kinds of visitors, especially if you want not only to drink, but also eat and talk to each other! The stuff is lovely, I've got a free burger just because a barman forgot to put it in my order. The selection of meals is just amazing. You can watch sports, you can come with a family - overall 5 ✨!

Pretty average 'pub for grub' sort of atmosphere, definitely more towards the family type of place. Foodwise was a mixed batch. I had the quadzilla, which is a massive burger of meat and cheese sauce. Thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was: a big mess at a decent price. The beyond meat stack the missus had wasn't great apparently. A bit dry and not much flavour, but to be expected for a token vegan option. Visiting the pub with friends was a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with cozy seating and lively chatter filling the air. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring our group felt welcome. The pub offers a wide variety of drinks that catered to everyone’s tastes. We spent a few hours catching up, laughing, and simply enjoying the laid-back environment. The food was also pretty good for the price. Overall, it was a great time with good company, and a nice new local pub for us!
