About Gunmakers
Wood-filled Victorian pub with a classic feel and a number of hanging baskets covering the exterior.
Originally licensed in 1791 and rebuilt some 90 years later, this pub was formerly the Bricklayers Arms and, more recently, was Scottish-themed as the William Wallace. Following a two year closure the venue reopened in 2019 with a 30-cover basement steakhouse restaurant and six guest bedrooms upstairs. Classic Sunday roasts are on offer in the restaurant. The ground-floor pub area has two cask ales.
Note that on Sundays the street outside usually hosts an excellent Farmers' Market between 10am and 2pm.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel and bar, such a gem to find in the city. Rooms are the perfect cross of luxurious and cozy with vintage style furnishings arranged in a elegantly contemporary way. I highly recommend this hotel. I was made to feel incredibly invited on arrival and have had an amazing experience while here. I was thinking how it’s great to have such a strong base to return to in the evening when exploring the city in the daytime. An all-round beautiful atmosphere.

What a fantastic heritage listed building. We were warmly greeted by Blair the manager, who has a vibrant and bubbly personality making you feel welcomed and at home. The bars have been done up nicely to keep their heritage look while the rooms have been stylishly updated and comfortable. The location it tops with too many food and drink places nearby to mention and access to transport very easy and close. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will happily return. We will also be recommending to any family and friends here in New Zealand that The Gunmakers is a must. Thank you Blair - keep up…

Stopped by this little pub after a busy shopping trip. We only wanted a drink but after seeing somebody else’s food come out we couldn’t resist but order! And we were not disappointed, the food was delicious and such good value for money. We will definitely return. Bar staff were great, a young Scottish gentleman, I didn’t catch his name, but he let us turn his football off to watch the Olympics !

Was here during the day, looking for a quiet bar to do some work! Blair, the manager, was fantastic. The service was great, and he was a great laugh that I ended up closing my laptop and staying until the bar closed! Will definitely be back when I'm next in London.
