About Hand & Racquet

Classic fare from pies to fish 'n' chips and burgers served in a traditional neighbourhood pub.

Converted by Whitbread from a Boots shop in 1995 as the Hand & Racket and renamed Hogshead in 1999, this medium sized, modern pub pub was acquired by Greene King and took its current name in 2004. A 2015 refurbishment has enhanced the pub.

A good atmosphere, variety of furniture, polished wood and tiled floors, wood panelled and painted walls, brick fireplace and raised seating area at the back.

Wide choice of food (not Fri & Sat evenings) and party reservations include free buffet.

Booked an area for 18 people this evening and sent in our pre order during the week. James , VJ & Nick the chef have been nothing but incredible from the start. Service has been great and food and desserts was a 10/10. Area was ready for us and food was brought out for the time we asked for. Food was incredible, I got the House Burger which i highly recommend!

Our first time here and great food, lovely staff and a great atmosphere where we were able to talk! Perfect spot after a busy day! Must have the Duck hash! Licked our plate clean! 💖

Excellent and friendly bar staff, nice pub, can't comment on the food but menu looks really good. They also have an accessible toilet which is always a plus for me as my partner is a wheelchair user. Just passing through as I live far away but would happily return if I am back this way again. Nice selection of beers and ales, very different to most pubs I have been to. Would recommend.

First time visit to Hand & Racquet this evening while in the area. From first walking in, felt a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Service at the bar was quick and friendly, drink served cold and fresh. No issues at all! Lots of friendly people here, music at a good level and everyone enjoying themselves. Will look forward to returning again!
