About Shaw's Booksellers

Bright, bay-windowed pub with quirky decor, serving a smart, seasonal British pub menu and cask ale.

New unbadged Fullers pub and "eating house" opened early December 1997 in former paper mill premises used more recently as a film set for "Wings of a Dove" which includes a bookshop scene. Spartan in style with bare boards, wooden tables and chairs, wood panelled ceiling and fans, maroon and cream painted walls etc. Wine racks behind bar.

Haven't been in here for ages. The Rising Sun and the Cockpit were rammed but Shaws was empty. It's a big air conditioned bar. The service was, unsurprisingly, excellent. Prices are what you'd expect to pay. It's not got the history of the Cockpit or the charm of the Rising Sun but it's a good bar.

Food definitely needed after all the steps at St Paul’s…other local pubs did not have food we liked, found this pub and the food and service was fabulous. Fish finger sandwich was a hit!

A regular local Pub with known beers and preferred for after work drinks. Nice menu and friendly service as well.

Didn't eat, but we had a quick beer. Most of the tables were laid up, but we found one which wasn't. A typically well-done Fullers conversion, preserving some original features.

Was asked to move tables as was by myself for lunch, was it that obvious I wasn't waiting for anyone to join me, appears like it was.. 'please can you move, never know how busy it can get on a Wednesday' , what a strange thing to say, is Wednesday the new Thursday now, perhaps, who knows; The food, had triple cooked chips and some pork chop starter, overcooked, felt like i just downed a half glass of cooking oil afterwards. Didn't say the food was bad because no one asked. The beer was good so 2 stars
