About Toll Gate
Wetherspoon pub with a big sky light, serving food all day and a pick of interesting beers and ales.
19/05/23 - "It’s keeping the same name. They’ve replaced faded signage with new ones exactly the same. The only difference is that Wetherspoons branding is gone. " Now has 6 handpumps and likely to feature just national brands. The thoughts behind the selection named is that those three were chosen “because that’s what people want”. There do not appear to have been any other fundamental changes. The provision of food is not known, that and the hours are a guess.
NOTE - as this is no longer a Spoons, the CAMRA Voucher scheme no longer applies.
In Sept 2022 Spoons announced this pub as being for sale. It closed its door on 26/03/23. It was a large early (1989) Wetherspoons pub with central bar. There is an outside seating area in front. With lots of wood panelling and stool seating facing the outside area, at the rear the large seating area is well lit by natural light through two large celing lanterns.
Has 3 regular beers and up to five guest beers. Very much a local community pub. Can be very busy and loud on weekend evenings. TV screens running silent.
Takes its name from the toll gate erected in 1765 where High Rd meets Green Lanes. It was dismantled soon after the system of turnpikes (private roads) was abolished in 1872.

The Toll Gate in Turnpike lane. Recently sold by Spoons. New owners haven’t changed much bar putting in a darts board and a pool table. Means the place has remained cheap while managing to actually get better. Nice decor. Chill spot with great staff. I’m in a booth so hence the random pics. And the carpet is refreshingly twee.

If ever in the Wood Green, London area, be sure to stop by. We were in North London for just a couple of days and The Toll Gate was within walking distance. Jordan and his crew were really friendly, they made us feel so welcomed. The beer was excellent too! My husband had some "Proper" English beer and I had some delicious apple cider. Highly recommended this place

Classical pub with a great atmosphere…but a top of this place is a kitchen, chef is an absolute star, you can’t even compare to anything around. Especially classical breakfast!

Won't lie, a bit grimy, but to be fair, we did stumble in sometime after 10pm on a Friday. That being said, the bar staff were on it and wait times weren't too crazy. Nice big outdoor seating area. It is split, in a sense, so half of it was only accessible by going into the pub, but what of it? Great casual vibe, no room for airs and a good place to get hammered at a reasonable price 👍🏼

Nice pints - a good spoons. Nice architecture, lighting, layout and wall decorations. Plenty of space. Nice mix of folk. It's a bit shabby and smelly but it wouldn't be a spoons if it wasnt... and for under £3 a Guinness I'm happy!
