About Grenadier
Tiny former officers' mess with grenadier-themed decor and unique pewter bar, serving ales and food.
Hidden away in an exclusive cul-de-sac behind Belgrave Square, this small mews pub was built in 1843 and called the New Grenadier until 1885. Even though the pub is small, the two doors suggest two different class-segmented drinking areas at one time. The two rear rooms are usually reserved for diners. A notice outside states that the licensee is only allowed to serve customers who arrive by taxi or on foot.
The sentry box outside is a modern addition.
A haven for its regulars, it has no TVs or music but welcomes visiting Morris dancers. Note the messages from customers written on banknotes from all over the world and stuck on the ceiling! The wood panelled walls are not surprisingly decorated with prints depicting the history of the Grenadier Guards. In spite of its hidden location, this is quite a well-known pub and can become crowded at times.
The food menu includes bar snacks and Sunday roasts. Expect to pay Belgravia prices.
In 2023 the operator became Ineos 123, a company manufacturing the Grenadier Ineos car marque; it is sub-leasing from Greene King. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the petrochemical tycoon, is a financial backer with a two-thirds stake in Ineos.

Probably my favorite pub in London, love how it’s hidden off the back alley cobblestone streets. Love the decor and the variety of cask ales, love the historical aspect and apparently it’s haunted. One of the bartenders was nice enough to take me to the basement and show me the area where the body was buried. The food is also excellent , their beef Wellington is delicious! The burger, lamb and duck are great choices as well! It’s a great pub to see for sure anytime you are in London!

This was the best restaurant during my stay in London. They had the best staff serving the best food. This was my first time trying lentil soup and it has become my favorite dish now. The beef wellington was perfect and reasonably priced. I would recommend it to everyone.

One of the best pubs in town. Great beer, great food (get the Scotch Eggs, really nice gooey centre and crispy on the shell) Amazing history, amazing location. Off the beaten track.

We loved all three courses of our meal. The burrata was divine, served with enormous perfectly ripe cherries and sliced figs. The scallops were beautifully cooked, soft but not overdone. My friend had the Beef Wellington - she said it was succulent. The monkfish and prawn curry was balanced and the sauce was delicious. The crumble had huge crunchy topping with apples and soft fruits. The sticky toffee pudding ( and its treacle sauce) was sublime. So rare to enjoy all three courses. The Rioja Crianza was full bodied but smooth, complementing the food. A wonderful memorable lunch. 10/10…

Great food at this tiny and very popular spot. It feels very traditional and cozy. The venison pie and crumble with custard were winners.
