A Victorian meeting place

Public houses in Stoke Newington were used for many social activities. Four houses including the Londesborough, had billiard licences in 1879. Almost all the friendly societies met at taverns because there were no other secular meeting places, apart from coffee houses in the mid-18th century and assembly rooms in the 19th century,

The Pride of Stoke Newington met at the Londesborough Tavern from 1860 to 1864. By c.1870 there were some 25 Taverns and Beer shops in Stoke Newington and the detached portions of South Hornsey, many at the corners of new roads in spite of opposition, mainly from nonconformist Sunday schools and abstinence associations.

In the 1960's, the Londesborough was one of the pubs that the notorious Kray Twins took a drink in.

We recently had our wedding at the Londesborough and it was amazing! The staff are well organised and super friendly, many of the guests approached myself and husband to comment on how smoothly the event went and how kind the staff were. The communication leading up to our wedding was also smooth and easy. The venue was decorated beautifully and just as I had communicated when bringing the resources earlier in the week. If you want a pub wedding this venue is a solid choice! Thanks again for the fantastic experience! :)

We chose The Londesborough for our wedding, because we love everything about the pub, and they couldn’t have given us a better day! From our first enquiry, the team guided us through and made everything straightforward, stress-free and memorable for all the right reasons. Our guests loved the venue, the food and the staff, and we couldn’t have been happier. Thanks for hosting and magical day!

We had our wedding here earlier this year and honestly had the absolutely best experience! From every tiny detail to being cared for by the whole team on the day we could not have picked a better venue. Amber was so helpful with all the organisation, giving us tips and helping us with a vision to make the pub feel like our own on the day. She is very organised, put up with many emails and no question was too small! She was super helpful when we had an issue with one of our suppliers a week before which really helped to take the stress off. Honestly we cant praise the team enough on the day…

We had our wedding reception at the Londesborough three weeks ago and it really was the best day ever! From when we first booked a year ago, the staff were always so helpful, very responsive and reassuring. The atmosphere on the day was amazing - really relaxed and fun, which was exactly what we were looking for. All the staff were absolutely brilliant, so efficient and making sure everything ran smoothly. The food surpassed our expectations and there were SO many compliments from all our guests. Couldn't recommend the Londesborough more highly for a wedding (and just an all round great pub)…

We are so happy we chose to have our wedding at The Londesborough. Everytjing about the day there was excellent. A few particular highlights. The food was some of the best we have had at a wedding (not being biased because it was our own wedding, paticular shout out to the potato gratin). The day ran so smoothly since they are so experienced in running weddings there, and having the speeches before dinner feels more natural. Perfect size for 90 people plus extra 30 in the evening, the intimate size encouraged everyone to get dancing. The feedback from so many of the guests has been…
