About Victoria Stakes

Gastropub with Chesterfields, stripped floors, covered terrace and airy first floor dining room.

On a vist on 3 October 2024 they had two beers on. They still have four pumps. They intend to have three rotating beers.

Single-bar pub nestling in the foothills of Alexandra Palace, on the main Finsbury Park to Muswell Hill bus route. Its name (so it is beleieved) comes from a horse race (it was originally built as a coachouse & stables) and the theme is reinforced throughout the pub. The pub's website has an interesting piece on its history.

Like several real ale outlets in the area, it describes itself as a 'bar and dining rooms'. Furnishings are a mix of leather sofas and old style wooden chairs; there is a wooden floor throughout on two levels and candle lighting predominates.

The cask beers available seem to change regularly and we have seen beers from various breweries across the country but they also favour tap takeovers - for example on a visit in November 2023 there were three beers from the Renegade Brewey. The pub also offers draught Leffe and Hoegaarden.

Food is served, either in the pub or the upstairs restaurant, check website for latest times. The menu takes in a wide ranges of full meals, snacks and tapas, plus various set menus. The pub suffered a massive fire in 2016 and has now been restored to full health with all the damage put right.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast here. The food was well seasoned and the plate a balanced mix of all the usual roast favourites. The atmosphere was great and the food came promptly. Glad this local institution is in good hands. Highly recommended.

Would have given five stars if it wasn’t for the service. Server who attended to us just looked like she did not want to work there; got the drinks order wrong, did not apologise for it, and when food took forever to arrive she did not apologise as well and have us some attitude for checking in on the order. Otherwise, the pub itself is cosy and lovely. We had roast on a Sunday and the food was good. Perhaps just bad luck for us on this day with service.

Incredible Sunday roast, great starters, delicious desserts and mocktails, and all of that in a gorgeous garden, should you choose to book a table outside.

Great pub and a local institution! The staff are friendly but I feel the food is not as good as it used to be. Limited vegan options and the one dish I could order was not great. My wife's prawn dish was way too spicy even though we said to leave out the chillies. I hope it will get better again as it used to be amazing for eating in.

We had our wedding breakfast and party in the upstarts dining room at the Victoria Stakes in February 2024 and loved every minute of it. Shalimar, Kasia, and the entire team worked tirelessly to make sure we had a fantastic celebration and we felt incredibly welcomed by everyone at the pub. The ambiance of the room was warm and bright - perfect to for a small to midsized wedding party. The food was delicious (many of our guests made a point to tell us so on the day and in the weeks afterwards), and the service was impeccable. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough and will be regulars…
