About Great Harry
Pub grub and a full bar in a lively, contemporary venue named for a 16th-century ship.

Large, corner plot Wetherspoon. A stone's throw from Woolwich Arsenal Bus/Mainline Railway/DLR interchanges by walking across the paved and grassed General Gordon Square. Woolwich first came to prominence in the early 16th century, when King Henry VIII established a dockyard here to build the Great Harry, the flagship of his new navy. This yard, where many famous ships were built, including the Sovereign of the Seas (in 1637), saw many royal visits and departures of voyages of exploration. Seriously damaged by fire in the early August 2011 riots and closed for the rest of the year and into 2012. A race was on to renovate and re-open by time of the 2012 Olympics as Woolwich was a venue for shooting events. The deadline was met and a new look and brighter and more shiny Great Harry arose. Open from 8am for breakfast. 10 handpumps, in 2 banks each of 5, adorn the bar counter which extends across almost all the width of the pub. Often sells a bag-in-box draught cider but not one which meets CAMRA's definition of real cider. Open-to-view kitchen up the side corridor. Toilets are up a spiral staircase.

A very popular place where you can choose between a lot of different beverages and food. It is very loud because it is big and many people visiting. But prices are fair and I like the variation of beers and ciders etc.

Update (Dinner) It was our first time to eat dinner here on a Sunday night. It was a little chaotic because there were lots of people drinking but service was still fast. We order lasagna, sirloin steak and burger. All tasted good and really affordable. 2nd time here... It's just a monthly thing. Love there breakfast. I tried the American Breakfast but I would say the English breakfast tasted way better...My daughter loves it.

A rainy Saturday lunchtime meant the pub was very busy, especially families, therefore this had an impact on how quickly tables were cleared and cleaned (see photos). The staff, however, were working hard to turn tables around and were conscious about sweeping carpets too. Despite how busy it was, food was served within 10 minutes. The double cheese American burger was found to be very pleasing and the chips were both crispy and fluffy. The decor looks a little tired but the toilets were modern and very clean.

The Great Harry offers excellent value for money, with affordable drinks and a wide menu of classic pub food. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff are friendly. It’s a great spot for a casual meal or drink with friends, with plenty of seating available.

Really enjoyed it. It's not just a traditional pub, it's also a restaurant (Indian, pizza, fast-food and more) and a cocktails bar all rolled into one. Good value-for-money.
