About Guard House
Roomy pub serving British classics with a twist in a former arsenal building with a vintage vibe.
In the Royal Arsenal development this pub opened in February 2016 and consists of the old Grade II listed guardhouse converted to house a cosy bar on the right hand side with 2 handpumps and a glass framed extension building to the left hand side which provides a large contemporary restaurant area with a bar with 3 handpumps. There is also a new conservatory to the rear.

The pub is beautifully laid out, we sat outside on the terrace for our Sunday roast. It was a lovely atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, and very attentive with any requests. The pork belly roast dinner was out of this world, and will definitely be going back again very soon!

Whilst the service has improved since our last visit, the food still leaves much to be desired. I ordered fish and chips. The fish wasn't bad but the peas were dry and grey and the curry sauce was also dry... considering it is a sauce. It seems to vary, sometimes you're shown a table and given a menu. Other times you have to find your own table and grab a menu yourself. The waitress was nice and cheerful and brought us a highchair for our baby. However, they need to check the safety of these chairs as the base of the highchair was broken and our baby was able to rock the whole chair. My…

Yesterday it wasn’t my first visit, and I ordered the same dish than the last time: pancakes. They were chewy, soggy, burnt underneath and there was only one strawberry sliced for the three pancakes. I also ordered an iced coffee, that didn’t come with the food, asked a waitress, and after waiting 10 more minutes I went to the bar and grabbed by myself. Definitely I will think about it twice before going again.

all in on fish 'n chips and they didn't disappoint us! extremely crispy fish and outstanding fries, great tartare and curry sauces - Id prefer the pea mash a little bit more on the liquid side but hey that's me... we got also some bar snacks as entrees and they did the job. James, running the bar/tables is a great friendly and very patient lad - thanks for all the help mate!

Excellent service by Denis and the rest of the team. Amazing fish and chips, toad in a hole and burger, great decking outside to enjoy drinks as you bask in the sun!
